ISF acting Director Gen. Basbous briefs Mufti Qabbani over investigations in the Khashoggi mosque attack

Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Mohamad Rashid Qabbani received on Thursday the Acting Director General of the Internal Security Forces, General Ibrahim Basbous, who briefed him on measures taken by the Directorate General of Internal Security following Sunday's attack on the Mufti at the Khashoggi mosque during the funeral of late Lebanese Mohammad al-Chaar who was killed in the Starco explosion.

Qabbani thanked ISF officers and members, mainly the Information Bureau for their exerted efforts that facilitated his exit from the mosque.

For his part, Basbous showed the Mufti footage collected by the ISF which reveal images of the aggressors.

On Sunday, members of the Internal Security Forces' Intelligence Bureau managed to evacuate Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani from the Khashoggi Mosque in Beirut after mourners at a Lebanese young man's funeral protested his presence.

Protesters threw their shoes at the military vehicle which transported Mufti Qabbani to Dar al-Fatwa.

A Mustaqbal newspaper photographer was wounded in the stampede outside the mosque and security forces transferred him to hospital.

A funeral was held for Lebanese young man Mohammad Chaar who was killed in the Starco explosion.

This as, Sheikh Ahmad al-Omari harangued a crowd of worshipers, noting that the Sunni community is targeted.

Al-Omari accused the "criminal Baath regime" of being behind attacks against Sunnis, he said in reference to the assassination of former minister Mohammad Chatah.

He accused "those who are dropping barrel bombs in Syria of being the criminals," describing their supporters as terrorists.

The funeral was also attended by former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's advisor Nader Hariri as well as the two sons of martyr Mohammad Chatah, Omar and Rani Chatah.
