Judge Nicola Lettieri assigned to STL's Trial Chamber
     
The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) announced on Wednesday that STL President Judge David Baragwanath has assigned Judge Nicola Lettieri to the Trial Chamber of the STL, following his appointment last week by the UN Secretary-General as the new international alternate judge.     

Lettieri who obtained a masters degree from the University of Naples in 1981, is experienced in international and domestic settings.     

In 1985, he became an Advocate before serving as Junior Magistrate at the Court of Naples in 1986.      

From 1987 until 2004, Judge Lettieri was appointed Deputy Prosecutor at the Court of Naples, specializing in international terrorism, economic crimes, corruption, and other areas.      

Judge Lettieri has assumed his role since 2010 as Deputy Attorney General at the Supreme Court of Cassation in Italy. As of 2011, he has held the post of a Legal Expert for the Italian Prime Minister in international legal affairs.            

Lettieri is waiting for the final approval from Italy's authorities before assuming his full-time duties at the STL.
