11-year-old girl abducted in Akkar, her family calls for her release

The Karhani family, which hails from the Swisa town, has called on the Lebanese state and the judiciary to retrieve their abducted daughter identified as 11-year-old Fatima Karhani, after citizen Mahmoud Salaheddine kidnapped her from her family's residence in order to marry her.

Karhani's case has caused tension among the town's residents who condemned the abduction and deemed it "a provocation and a violation to constitutional and religious laws".

In this regard, the girl's father Jihad Said Karhani said his daughter was kidnapped on Sunday without his consent, noting that he wants her back "by all possible means".

"The guy had already made a marriage proposal and we did not reject it but requested more time so she becomes a grown up. We also told him that she should complete her education," Jihad Karhani said on Saturday.

"We tried to contact all the region's figures to settle the case but our efforts were to no avail," he added.
