Assir calls for release of abducted nuns and priests

"Seven months have already passed since the clashes in Sidon’s Abra region and up until now Lebanese Armed Forces’ soldiers are still arresting citizens from the said region under false pretexts," Sheikh Ahmad Assir said Wednesday.

Assir added that LAF soldiers are taking their orders from the Secretary General of Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and House Speaker Nabih Berri, stressing that former Prime Minister Saad Hariri is covering their actions in Sidon.

In tweets posted on his twitter account, Sheikh Assir said the siege imposed on the Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria reflects the real image of Hezbollah, Iran, and Syrian President Bashar Assad.

“Regardless of the fact that various Christian religious men and politicians voice support to President Assad, justifying his crimes against the people, we call for the release of abducted priests and nuns,” Sheikh Assir tweeted.

In June 2013, heavy clashes erupted between the Lebanese Armed Forces and supporters of Sheikh Ahmad Assir, killing at least 16 soldiers and wounding dozens others in Lebanon’s southern city of Sidon.

Assir has since then disappeared along with other wanted fugitives.
