The former Secretary General of General Security Maj. Gen. Jamil al-Sayyed said on Saturday that “every political party has the right to be represented in the new cabinet by any figure the party sees fit, such as the appointment of Ashraf Rifi by the Future Movement as a minister,” noting at the same time that “there is no principled or ethical reason to justify March 8 alliance’s decision to give up on the Justice Ministry.”

“Whoever is considered ineligible for security is therefore ineligible for justice,” he said, stressing that the people see justice and security as two directly related matters.

“The same team [in reference to March 8] had rejected the extension of the mandate of Ashraf Rifi as chief of the Internal Security Forces, and toppled the government of former PM Saad Hariri for refusing to refer the case of the false witnesses and those involved in it to the Judicial Council, including Ashraf Rifi,” he explained.

Maj. Gen. al-Sayyed issued a statement in this regard whereby he said that “March 8 coalition must bear the full responsibility for this huge ethical mistake  that cannot be politically justified,” declaring that he will end any consultative relationship with the said team.

However, he stressed that he will commit to his firm strategic political stance, which has always been based on his own convictions and beliefs, as he said.
