Future Movement calls for LAF deployment along Lebanese border

The Future Movement condemned on Friday the Syrian air raids on the border towns of Arsal and Akkar, urging the state to deploy the Lebanese Armed Forces along the border.

The comments were made following the movement’s weekly meeting whereby it called on the concerned authorities to take the “necessary measures to protect the border.”

The movement added that the border became under the control of “illegitimate weapons which are used to drag Lebanon into the Syrian crisis.”

Syrian warplanes carried out several raids on Friday on the region of al-Maslaha located on the outskirts of the border town of Arsal, killing two Syrian nationals (a child and a girl) and leaving five others injured.

This comes after Syrian warplanes launched several rockets on the town of Khirbet Younin in the vicinity of Asral, but no casualties were reported.

Shelling from the Syrian side has also damaged other Lebanese border towns which have bore the brunt of the cross-border attacks.

This comes as a result of the fighting taking place in Syria between Syrian government troops and rebels seeking to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad.
