HIC underscores need to elect new president on time

The Higher Islamic Council (HIC) stressed on Saturday the need to elect a new Lebanese president within the constitutional deadline and “without any external influence”.

The council said this entitlement should abide by national principles stipulated by the Taif accord.

The HIC also condemned what it described as “irresponsible statements” against the military institution, urging all the Lebanese to launch a wide campaign of solidarity with the Lebanese army.

On another note, the HIC praised the reconciliation march between Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh, calling for similar rallies across the Lebanese regions.
