Jumblatt says never planned to undermine Syria’s state authority

National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt responded Friday to the legal notice issued against him by the Syrian authorities on charges of undermining Syria's state authority, stressing that “he had never planned on such a thing.”

“This is why I have repeatedly called for the implementation of the decisions issued by the Geneva conference and for reaching a political solution in order to protect what is left of Syria, especially after the regime committed criminal acts, leading to the displacement of millions of Syrians,” he said.

Commenting on the lawsuit filed against him, Jumblatt said that the complaint should have been issued from Damascus, rather than Lattakia, “so that it reflects its importance,” stressing that the Syrian regime is strongly keen on preserving the state of law and is in the process of organizing the most important unprecedented electoral and democratic event.

However, MP Jumblatt noted that he is waiting to receive a table of the expenses and costs of the appeal in order to settle them in accordance with the norms.

“And I will not forget to add this lawsuit to the pile of previous lawsuits issued against me by the Syrian regime, and maybe make a folder and distribute free copies to my friends,” he continued sarcastically.

The MP’s remarks come a day after Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi confirmed that the Justice Ministry had received two legal notices against MP Walid Jumblatt and journalist Fares Khashan on charges of undermining Syria's state authority.
