Kerry contacts Sleiman, reiterates need to elect a president
US Secretary of State John Kerry contacted on Thursday former President Michel Sleiman and reiterated his country's support for Lebanon's stability and the cooperation between the two sides.

He also stressed the need to elect a successor for Sleiman "as soon as possible."

Kerry voiced his country's support to the Baabda Declaration.

For his part, Suleiman reminded Kerry of the burden Syrian refugees are posing on Lebanon.

Sleiman's six-year mandate ended over the weekend.

Lebanese lawmakers failed to elect his successor after five election sessions.
