Huge fire erupts near Saint Elie Monastery in Jeita

A huge fire erupted on Friday at a forest near the Saint Elie Monastery in Jeita.

Reasons behind the fire remain unknown but civil defense units rushed to the scene in an effort to put it out.

Rise in temperatures bring fears over what is left of the country's forests. Forest fires have become an expected threat that come with the summer.

Last May thousands of acres were lost in an ancient forest in Lebanon's Baabda region. The slow response and inadequate equipment were said to be the main culprit for what was dubbed a great loss.
