LAF helicopter works on extinguishing Akkar wildfire

A Lebanese Armed Forces helicopter is currently working on extinguishing the fire that erupted Saturday overnight near the Akkar towns of Ayyat, Dora and Baino, the state-run National News Agency reported.

A huge plastic pond was set up in the town of Ayyat to supply the helicopter with water, the agency added.

The fire which re-erupted Sunday morning on the outskirts of the Baino town, has spread through the green spaces of the Ayyat town.

Civil Defense teams were stranded by the blaze but were rescued shortly afterwards.

The fire, fanned by hot winds, spread quickly through this rugged area where the flames could only be extinguished through helicopters.
