Future bloc head Siniora urges swift election of a new president
Future bloc head MP Fouad Siniora called on Friday for the swift election of a Lebanese president, describing the current presidential void as "lethal and harmful".

"Some parties are hurdling [presidential election] sessions, which has taken a toll on the Lebanese people, Siniora said following talks with Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros al-Rai in Bkerke.

"The Lebanese people want a powerful president who has the ability to lead and who symbolizes coexistence," Siniora said, noting that the election of a new head of state is a priority.

Separately, the Future bloc head said dictatorial regimes stand behind the current regional incidents, pointing out that some parties are using Islam as a pretext to commit their crimes.

"What is happening in Iraq and Syria concerns all the Arab community," he said, adding "we will not rest until the return of all those who were expelled by Islamic State militants to their homes".
