LAF will firmly respond to attacks against military institution- Army Command

The Lebanese Armed Forces Command said on Saturday that a group of gunmen, of different nationalities, attacked army bases in the border town of Arsal, killing a number of soldiers and injuring others.

Casualties were also reported among Arsal residents who stood, alongside the security and military forces, against gunmen who deployed in the town.

"The incidents taking place today are the most dangerous yet since it was obviously revealed that some parties are planning to target Lebanon, its armed troops and the town of Arsal," the Army Command said in a statement.

"The armed groups launched attacks on the houses of Lebanese citizens in Arsal and the surrounding areas," the statement said, noting that gunmen kidnapped a number of soldiers as well as Internal Security Forces members and took them hostages, calling for the release of one of the most dangerous detainees.

In this regard, the Army Command said the LAF will firmly respond to all attacks against the military institution and Arsal residents.

"The army will stand against anyone who attempts to drag Lebanon into the Syrian war and will not allow any gunmen to undermine the country's security nor attack LAF and security members," the Army Command added.
