VIDEO: A closer look at Syrian detainee Abou Ahmad Jomaa

Abou Ahmad Jomaa, whose capture by the Lebanese army triggered attacks by gunmen on army bases, is a Syrian national who hails from the town of al-Qusair which had been the scene of fierce battles between gunmen and Hezbollah-backed Syrian government troops.

Jomaa, who was affiliated with Jabhat al-Nusra, had participated in battles in Reef Homs and the Qalamoun region.

Upon the declaration of the Islamic caliphate, Jomaa pledged his alliance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State, and joined the militant group.
