Trial in Ayyash et al. case to resume on Aug. 26 -STL

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon said on Monday (August 25) that the trial in the Ayyash et al. case will resume on Tuesday the 26th of August following the end of the judicial recess.

The Trial Chamber will continue to hear evidence from the Prosecution, with five witnesses set to testify over the next two weeks, the STL said, noting that the expected evidence is related to the first chapter of the case concerning the 14 February 2005 events.

Since the trial began on the 16th of January 2014, the testimony of 22 witnesses has been heard and 391 exhibits have been admitted into evidence, the tribunal added.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon was set up by the United Nations at the Lebanese government's request to try the alleged perpetrators of the 2005 bombing in which former PM Rafik Hariri and 21 others were killed.
