LF leader Geagea to Nasrallah: Would you maintain your rejection to the US-led coalition had Iran participated in it?

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea questioned on Wednesday Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's opposition to the United States-led airstrikes against the Islamic State in the region.

“Would you maintain your rejection to the coalition against the IS had Iran participated in it?,” asked Geagea.

Geagea's comments were made following talks with National Liberal Party leader Dory Shamoun.

Moreover, he addressed Nasrallah's remark that Lebanon would be faced with threats should it join the international coalition, asking: “Doesn't the military involvement in Syria pose a threat to Lebanon?”

“Shouldn't you have told your MPs to elect a new president had you really wished to build a strong state?” he added.

He then turned to Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun and his bloc's ongoing boycott of the presidential elections, urging them to put an end to their boycott and elect a new president.

Nasrallah had said during a televised speech delivered on Tuesday that Hezbollah is against the military intervention and against the international coalition, "whether the target is the Syrian regime or the IS.”

"America is the mother of terrorism and because it is the ultimate supporter of Zionist state terrorism,” Nasrallah explained.

Nasrallah also noted that the coalition only aims at “defending American interests.”

“Lebanon can fight terror and it has succeeded in doing so with the help of the army, security forces and perseverance,” Nasrallah said.

The U.S.-led coalition had started on Tuesday carrying out airstrikes against the IS and against al-Qaeda-linked groups in Syria.
