Qabbani to LBCI: Bassil is deceiving people and violating law

The Head of the energy parliamentary committee MP Mohamad Qabbani accused Energy Minister Gebran Bassil of deceiving the Lebanese and violating the law. “Bassil wishes to spend from the budget so he would be able to control all expenses”, Qabbani said.  

Qabbani urged the energy minister to work in line with the law, adding “only then he will enjoy the support of every party in all the required measures to rehabilitate the electricity sector.”

Qabbani stressed that Bassil’s 700 megawatt project will be part of a draft that will stipulate the establishment of a regulatory body for the electricity sector within three months.

“Bassil did not establish the committee because he wants to take unilateral decisions and does not want to resort to Arab or international funds because he wants to spend from the treasury with high interest rate”, Qabbani said.

Qabbani said that Bassil is trying to cover up for his mistakes and failures within the Energy Ministry by turning the battle into domestic conflicts between the Lebanese.
