LF MP Fadi Karam to LBCI: Civil society activists must be "objective"
Lebanese Forces MP Fadi Karam stressed on Wednesday that not all political factions support the extension of the parliament's mandate, adding that such an issue is interconnected with other internal issues.

MP Karam made his comments during a phone call with LBCI's Nharkom Said TV show whereby he noted that protests held by civil society activists against the parliament are "irrelevant", citing the previous parliament as the reason behind the possible extension of the parliament's mandate.

He concluded by calling on civil society activists to be "objective", adding that he supports all demands that they call for.

If Parliament extends its term, it will be the second time in a span of two years. Set originally for June 2013, the parliamentary polls were postponed for 17 months in May of last year. Parliament’s current term is now set to expire in November.

The presidential post is also still vacant, with no successor to President Michel Sleiman, whose six-year mandate ended on May 25.

Civil society activists are holding continuous protests to denounce the possible extension of parliament’s mandate.
