MP Kazem al-Kheir to LBCI: North Lebanon's residents stand behind LAF, reject extremism

MP Kazem el-Kheir said on Tuesday that no civilians were killed in the Akkar region of Bhannine during the latest clashes.

Al-Kheir's comments were made during an interview with LBCI's Nharkom Said TV show whereby he asserted that north Lebanon's residents stand behind the Lebanese army, rejecting all forms of terrorism and extremism.

He also noted that the crackdown on extremism should be the responsibility of all Lebanese sects, not only the Sunnites.

Al-Kheir concluded by saying that North Lebanon has sacrificed immensely for the country in terms of martyrdom, noting however that the state has yet to repay.

On Monday (October 27), the military operation that was launched by the Lebanese army in the northern city of Tripoli ended following the withdrawal of gunmen; however, LAF units remained deployed in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh.

Clashes erupted in Tripoli between the army and militants on Friday (October 24), leaving scores of soldiers, civilians, and gunmen dead.

Fierce clashes also erupted on Sunday between the Lebanese Armed Forces and armed men in the town of Dhour Bhannine in the northern region of Akkar.
