MP Jumblatt: PSP to call for popular movement should Naameh landfill issue remain unresolved

The head of the Progressive Socialist Party, MP Walid Jumblatt said Monday that his party will call for popular movements in order to exert pressure on authorities to put an end to the issue related to the Naameh landfill.

In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa website, Jumblatt raised questions over the reasons behind the division of the members of the concerned committee tasked with the issue of the said landfill and that of solid waste management, and the reasons preventing the cabinet from taking appropriate decisions in this regard.

“We are still awaiting a response for our main demand concerning the need for each region to handle its own waste, instead of dumping all the country’s waste into one area without complying with the norms adopted in the techniques of treating waste,” he stated, adding that politicizing such an issue is unacceptable.
