Patriarch Rai hails dialogue initiatives between rival political parties

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai hailed on Thursday the dialogue initiatives between the rival political parties to break the deadlock.

Patriarch Rai’s comments were made during the New Year's Day mass held at Bkerke.

He also voiced hopes that the efforts deployed by the political leaders to elect a new president would pay off.

“Peace will not flourish between the Lebanese people as long as there are political sides that are falsifying the truth and violating justice and practicing oppression,” Patriarch Rai added.

Lebanon has been without a president since former President Michel Sleiman's term ended on May 25.

Parliament, which is tasked with choosing a successor, has failed to elect a president amid a boycott of election sessions by March 8 lawmakers.
