Lebanon scholars tackle latest developments in the wake of Tripoli bomb attack

A number of sheikhs and scholars attended on Monday a meeting at the residence of Salafist cleric Salem al-Rafei, the head of the Muslim Scholars Association, with talks featuring high on the latest developments.

Tripoli residents remained on Monday in a state of shock in the wake of the double suicide attack that rocked the Jabal Mohsen Alawite neighborhood, killing at least nine and wounding 36 others.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese army and security forces raised their level of alertness and implemented tight measures across the city’s neighborhoods.

A double suicide attack on Saturday killed at least nine people at a cafe in the city of Tripoli. It was claimed by the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front.

The northern city of Tripoli has been repeatedly buffeted by violence linked to the civil war in neighboring Syria. The last major flareup in the city was in October, when at least 11 soldiers and 22 militants were killed in clashes between Sunni militants and the army.
