Discharged employees at Casino Du Liban continued on Thursday their sit-in outside the facility for the third day in a row. The protesters held a meeting with Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi at the ministry at noon, and agreed with him on an initiative to solve their crisis, only to be informed later on that the initiative efforts had failed. Earlier, the head of the union of Casino du Liban employees Hadi Chehwan told LBCI that the employees will continue their escalatory steps should the initiative fail. “We received a phone call from the administration stating that we will not collect our salaries this month, but they will give us checks after we sign the papers,” he added. In turn, Minister Azzi said that decisions to discharge employees taken by any administration should take into consideration the dimensions of such a decision. On Tuesday, Casino Du Liban announced that the plan set to treat the financial and administrative issues requires monitoring the promotions and the work process of the casino, as well as terminating the employment of several workers. The administration also noted that the implementation of said procedures was halted due to the deteriorating security situation in neighboring countries and ensuing impacts on the local economic scene. It also noted that the contracts of employees who are not attending their duties are hereby terminated, adding that it will not backtrack on its decision. Sources had told LBCI that 191 employees were suspended from work at Casino Du Liban, adding that they were successively being informed by the administration.
