Change and Reform bloc: Difference over presidential elections should be resolved through Lebanese channels
The Change and Reform bloc said on Tuesday that the differences over the presidential elections should be resolved through Lebanese channels.

“We should adhere to the Lebanese will and constitutional means to solve this issue,” MP Ibrahim Kanaan said after the bloc's weekly meeting.

“We have heard of various initiatives, some foreign, to resolve the dispute over the presidency, but this matter must remain a pure Lebanese one,” he added.

He also voiced hopes that a solution to the presidential vacuum would respect constitutional institutions, Muslim-Christian coexistence, and the people's will.”

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended in May without the election of his successor.

Ongoing disputes between the March 8 and 14 camps have thwarted the presidential polls.

Jean-François Girault, Director of the Department of the Middle East and North Africa at the French Foreign Ministry, had twice visited Lebanon to try to reach a breakthrough in the elections, but he has so far failed to do so.
