Speaker Berri: Chances to “Lebanonize” presidential elections still available

Visitors of Speaker Nabih Berri quoted him as saying on Wednesday that he regrets the lawmakers’ failure to elect a new president for the country, adding that chances to “Lebanonize” the polls are still available.

On another note, Berri told his visitors that the dialogue between Hezbollah and the Future Movement is “ongoing” despite the statements issued lately in the media.

Berri also tackled with Change and Reform bloc MPs the officers’ service extension, saying that such a suggestion needs more examination.

Earlier, the 19th parliamentary session scheduled to elect a president was delayed until March 11, due to lack of quorum, as only 56 deputies attended.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum after Michel Sleiman's mandate ended on May 25 with rival political blocs still divided over a new leader.
