Nusra Front mourns militant Ousama Mansour, urges Lebanon’s Sunnis to revolt

The Qaeda-linked Nusra Front mourned Ousama Mansour, a notorious militant who was killed on April 9th in a shootout with the Internal Security Forces’ Information Bureau in Tripoli, north Lebanon.

In a video released on Friday, the militant group said “Ousama and his brothers tried to avoid a conflict with the Lebanese government as they were keen to spare the Sunni community [further] bloodshed”.

“However, it has been revealed that this cabinet has become a tool in the hands of Hezbollah,” the Nusra Front said, calling on Lebanon’s Sunnis to revolt before “they become like the Sunnis of Syria, Iraq and Yemen”.

On April 9th, terrorist fugitive Osama Mansour was killed along with another man in a shootout with an ISF patrol in the northern city of Tripoli, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The operation also left two ISF members injured and sources said Islamist militant Mansour was wearing an explosives belt shortly before being killed.

Another fugitive identified as Khaled Hoblos was detained with his escort, security sources told LBCI.

Osama Mansour, who had close ties with Lebanon's top Islamist fugitive Shadi Mawlawi, was wanted over plotting numerous attacks against the Lebanese Armed Forces in Tripoli.

He also took part in clashes between the city’s rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen.

Osama Mansour and Shadi Mawlawi are believed to have links with Al-Qaeda affiliated Nusra Front.
