The Head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun said that Lebanon is down but not out.
“[March 8 coalition] wants Lebanon to be a real state while [March 14 coalition] wants it to be the dump of the Middle East”, Aoun said following the weekly Change and Reform bloc meeting.
Aoun said that his ministers will resign if the electricity draft law is not adopted during the upcoming cabinet session, adding that every person concerned with this issue has been notified.
“It is up to the minsters to determine the plan’s cost”, Aoun said, highlighting the importance of respecting constitutional articles that reserve the ministers’ right to earmark funds.
When discussing the turbulent situation in the region, Aoun added that no armed sectarian conflict will occur in Lebanon, underscoring the need for stability: a stability he claims recent remarks from Future bloc MPs seek to undermine.
Speaking on the recent Lessa incident, Aoun said violence in the village should not be framed in a political or sectarian context as it is “a judicial matter and should be handled as such.”
Last week, Aoun proclaimed that the Internal Security Forces (ISF) have not been fulfilling their prescribed role due to significant shortcomings on every level. “We have to wait and see whether Attorney General Judge Said Mirza will react to the comments made regarding the ISF”, Aoun added.
Aoun called on the concerned authorities to publish the findings of the investigation of the recent Roumieh jailbreak, adding that he was told by a reporter that the security forces were aware of the operation before it took place.
Asked about the Time magazine interview Aoun said: “Hezbollah has the right to defend its members”.
