Kahwaji on eve of Liberation Day vows to liberate remaining occupied territories, abducted soldiers

Lebanese Armed Forces chief General Jean Kahwaji vowed on Friday to free the remaining territories occupied by Israel and to bring back home troops taken hostage by jihadists.

Kahwaji’s comments were made in his Order of the Day on the occasion of Resistance and Liberation Day.

The LAF chief also vowed to safeguard Lebanon’s land, people and state institutions, expressing confidence in the army's readiness to be honored with such a “noble mission.”

Southern Lebanon “had been a battlefield for Israeli attacks and a gateway for the sectarian winds.

But it has become an oasis of security and stability” due to the army's readiness to defend it, he added.

Resistance and Liberation Day is celebrated on May 25 and marks the withdrawal of Israeli troops from South Lebanon in 2000 after an occupation that lasted 22 years.

But Israel still occupies the Shebaa Farms area, the Kfarshouba hills and the northern part of Ghajar.

Kahwaji reiterated that the Lebanese army would deploy all efforts to release the troops taken captive by jihadists from the border town of Arsal last August.

He also urged the Lebanese army troops to remain loyal to such goals, dubbing them as “Lebanon's sole protectors”.
