Families of kidnapped troops block Qalamoun highway
Families of the Lebanese troops who were kidnapped by the Islamic State group blocked Tuesday the Qalamoun highway in both directions, and threatened to take escalatory measures.

The captives’ families urged the concerned authorities to brief them on developments regarding the case as rumors suggest the troops may have been transferred to Syrian territories or even killed.

The captives' relatives have been staging sit-ins across Lebanon to pressure politicians into hastening negotiations in order to secure the release of their loved ones.

The men were taken hostage when militants from Syria took over the Lebanese border town of Arsal for five days before withdrawing toward the Syrian frontier, taking with them Lebanese soldiers and policemen as hostages.

The clashes were the most dangerous spillover of violence from the civil war in neighboring Syria.
