Finance Minister Hassan Khalil says Lebanon in a state of emergency

Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil said Wednesday that contacts between Rabieh and Ain al-Tineh are ongoing, expressing shock toward the fact that ministers of the Free Patriotic Movement are failing to recognize the reasons behind the need to introduce further fund allocations, in reference to the issue of salaries and wages.

During a press conference, Minister Khalil said that the budget draft law was referred to the Parliament five months ago, noting that it does not concern the current crisis.

“We stopped funding several ministries in order to compensate for urgent requirements,” he pointed out, adding that either an additional expense account should be opened by the Parliament, or the spending of some ministries will be frozen.

Khalil stressed that the cabinet and the Finance Ministry are committed to the fulfillment of all their obligations and settlement of all due bonds, stating that some decisions must be made in a an effort to maintain the country's credibility.

In this regard, he noted there are 12 draft credits that require decrees to be issued by the cabinet, which in turn must convene to refer these decrees to parliament.

Commenting on the waste crisis, the minister said Lebanon is in the midst of an emergency, adding Prime Minister Tammam Salam is looking into options related to the exportation of garbage.
