The Military General Prosecution continued its investigations under the directives of State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud over the incidents that occurred in central Beirut on Saturday (August 22) overnight. By Tuesday, most of the detainees were released after they were found innocent of performing any riots or attacks against security forces. However, investigations are still ongoing with others who are still kept in custody. The Judge has heard the testimonies of most of the security members in a bid to take the necessary measures against them. Meanwhile, a medical doctor was asked to examine the injured persons and Internal Security Forces; pointing out that most injuries sustained by the former were the result of rubber bullets. Massive demonstrations launched by environmental anti-corruption activists, “You Stink”, kicked off on Saturday (August 22) evening to protest the government’s failure to resolve the waste management crisis. During the protest, scuffles erupted between protesters and security forces, leaving several injured from both parties.
