A delegation of lawyers entrusted with defending the downtown Beirut protesters stated on Tuesday that arresting demonstrators is forbidden "since peaceful demonstrations are the right of all citizens."
The delegation noted in a press conference held in Beirut’s Riad El-Soleh Square that attorneys will file complaints against all those who attacked the protesters, emphasizing that investigations into the Beirut protests should be re-conducted.
Massive demonstrations launched by environmental anti-corruption activists, “You Stink”, kicked off on Saturday and Sunday (August 22, 23) evening to protest the government’s failure to resolve the waste management crisis.
During the protest, scuffles erupted between protesters and security forces, leaving several injured from both parties.
