Lebanon's Hezbollah says Saudi-led anti-IS coalition is suspicious
Lebanon’s Hezbollah issued a statement on Thursday whereby it expressed “deep doubts” about “the motives and objectives that pushed Saudi Arabia to announce the formation of 34-nation anti-Islamic State coalition, describing it as “suspicious.”

Consequently, the party questioned Saudi Arabia's competence to lead it.

Hezbollah, which has repeatedly criticized Sunni heavyweight Saudi Arabia over both its military operations in Yemen and its support for Sunni Muslim Islamist rebels in Syria, also said in the statement that it rejected any Lebanese participation in the coalition.

On another note, the party said that Prime Minister Tammam Salam’s opinion in terms of Lebanon joining the collation is personal, pointing out that the premier is not entitled to take such decision, especially that the military alliance in question is suspicious.

Saudi Arabia said on Tuesday that 34 states have agreed to form a new alliance to fight terrorism with a joint operations center based in Riyadh.

Lebanon is among the 34 countries in the alliance.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam welcomed the new Islamic military alliance-led by Saudi Arabia as Lebanon and its army and security forces are engaged in daily battles with terror groups, one of them is holding nine servicemen hostage.
