Berri: The importance of the resistance cannot be debated
On the 33rd anniversary of the Imam Musa al-Sadr disappearance, Speaker Nabih Berri spoke on the presence of the resistance and stated that its importance cannot be debated.
“The resistance was born as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon’s territories, water and oil”, Berri said.
In regard to the Syrian crisis, Berri said that the conspiracy plotted against Syria aims at dividing it, which, in turn, will endanger Iraq, Lebanon and Turkey.
“We warn the Arab regimes that have abandoned Syria of falling into the trap of a new Sykes-Picot agreement”, Berri added.
Berri said that although Lebanon shares Libya’s joy in the victories achieved so far, these victories are bittersweet because of the Gaddafi regime’s years of silence.
“I have called on the Lebanese government to form a committee that will head to Libya to make the needed calls in order to locate Imam Musa al-Sadr”, Berri added.
In August 1978, al-Sadr and two companions Sheikh Muhammad Yaacoub and journalist Abbas Badreddine departed for Libya to meet with government officials. The three were never heard from again. According to the former Libyan envoy to the Arab League, al-Sadr was executed in Libya in 1978.
Regarding why the Amal movement supports the arms of the resistance, Berri said that the Cairo agreement “abandoned and weakened the south”, adding that,“All conventions before the Taef accord neither aimed at strengthening the army nor implementing vital projects in the South, the Bekaa and Akkar”.
