Lebanese citizens’ daily bread in danger until flour subsidization decision emerges
At a time when the cabinet did not take a decision to subsidize flour and while Lebanon’s Union of Bakeries did not give up on the subsidy request, fears of a price increase are rising.

Despite the failure to reach an agreement with Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas on the deduction of 70,000 LBP from the price of one ton of flour, bakery owners started to apply this with the millers.

Some said that the reason behind the cabinet’s decision not to subsidize flour is that some are using the flour for purposes beyond the production of bread. The head of Lebanon’s Union of Bakeries Kazem Ibrahim told LBCI that he refuses this accusation which he considered to be an infringement of the sector while a number of workers in the sector did not deny it.
