IMF satisfied with Lebanese economic and financial policies
The Steering Committee of the IMF Middle East Regional Technical Assistance Center held a meeting on Wednesday and focused on the IMF’s assistance to Lebanon and other states in the region.

Within this framework, the IMF vice director Neemat Chafik told LBCI, on the margins of her participation in the workshop, how the IMF evaluates the Lebanese economy relating the shake that it received last year and led to the decrease of the growth rate, to the events in the region.

Chafik confirmed the positive evaluation of the public debt reduction and underlined the budget’s need to generate a surplus through taxation, even if it is “not popular”, in order to maintain economic stability. Neemat also predicted a difficult future for Lebanon and the Arab world.

Chafik stressed that Lebanon has a strategic position and IMF made it a base for its regional center for technical assistance in the region, adding that Lebanon doe not need financing from the IMF.
