Siniora calls for referring Kweikhat case to Judicial Council

Mourners continued to flow to al-Bireh on Friday to pay condolence over the death of Sheikh Ahmad Abd al-Wahed’s killing in Akkar.

A Future Movement delegation headed by former PM Fouad Siniora also came to al-Bireh to offer condolences. In a public statement, the brother of Sheikh Abd Al-Wahed called for referring the Kweikhat case to the Judicial Council, refusing the politicization of the issue.

In turn, Siniora said that the killing of both Muslim Sheikhs targeted the unity of the Lebanese in general and the residents of Akkar in particular, calling on the state to shoulder its responsibility to ensure the citizens’ safety.

Siniora also urged the concerned authorities to move quickly on investigations and to refer the Kweikhat case to the Judicial Council. “We will call for the formation of a parliamentary commission to investigate the crime.”

For their part, residents of Al-Bireh held a demonstration demanding that the truth be found in the case of the slain sheikh.
