Mufti Qabbani on smear campaign: I was freed

Sources close to the Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Muhammad Rachid Qabbani told An-Nahar daily Wednesday that, the Mufti commented on the unmitigated smear campaign spearheaded by Future bloc against him as saying “I was freed”.

The Mufti said “Dar el Fatwa who works under the principles of openness and dialogue, is open to everyone”, adding that he had already received the Lebanese Forces Leader Samir Geagea and many other  March 14 political figures.

Sheikh Qabbani wondered: “Do they want me to receive Geagea and refuse to receive Hezbollah? And should I inform all political references each time of my appointments agenda to get their consent?”

Commenting on Secretary General of the Future Movement Ahmad Hariri’s call to reconsider the principals of Dar el Fatwa, the sources quoted the Mufti as saying that “I have reviewed the principles and found nothing that deters me from receiving the Syrian ambassador or Hezbollah, adding “I never take an uncalculated step so that I do not regret it, and I will not hesitate to correct a mistake if there was any, but thank God I have a clear conscience.”
