Just a few meters away from luxurious yachts, citizens hailing from different poor suburbs flock into Ramla al-Bayda beach, particularly on Sundays, to enjoy what seems to be the last “free” breathing space for Beirut residents.

An environmental foundation by the name of "Cedars" has been taking the center role in the rehabilitation of the public beach since 2003.

However, these efforts fall short amid the lack of action by concerned ministries to ensure cleanliness and safety of public shores.
