Uneasy calm prevails following overnight clashes between Akroum and Houraniye
Uneasy calm prevailed along the Lebanese-Syrian border on Saturday following overnight clashes between al-Jaafar family in al-Houraniye and members from the town of Akroum. The clash turned into exchange of gunfire, involving missiles and mortar shells.

Clashes raged on Wednesday between Mount Akroum’s residents and Hourani’s, which are located in the East North region of Akkar. Lebanese citizen Ahmad Berri Bou Ali was killed during the clash.

According to information made available to LBCI, the clash occurred after a citizen from Akroum gave shelter to a Syrian family hailing from Syria’s Qusair in his village.

The LAF carried out patrols in the area ahead of a meeting to be held today between sheikhs and religious figures to contain the tension.
