The Maronite Bishops praised on Wednesday the initiative of President Michel Aoun, to hold an economic meeting and declare a state of economic emergency in Lebanon.
Following their monthly meeting in Diman, the Maronite bishops supported "the official Lebanese complaint against the attack to the Security Council," regarding Israeli attack on Beirut's southern suburbs.
They called on the government to "work hard to avoid imposing new taxes, especially on low-income people, to stop squandering, and to control smuggling in public facilities."
The bishops finally hoped that the state would implement the required reforms at the economic level "in a peaceful climate, in which reason and dialogue prevail over individual interests."
