Macron says France ready to support Lebanese Army, backs ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal

French President Emmanuel Macron said he held talks with Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, reaffirming France’s commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a post on X, Macron said the establishment of a robust ceasefire, which must be respected by all parties, should pave the way for a simultaneous process involving an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the redeployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces, in order to ensure the state’s exclusive control over weapons.

Macron added that France is prepared to provide concrete support for this process and to mobilize the international community in the coming weeks, alongside the Lebanese government, to support the Lebanese Armed Forces and address the needs of displaced populations.
