Introduction to the evening news 09-09-2012
The abduction of Syrians, mainly opposition figures is no longer restricted to one Lebanese region. Following the “heroic” abductions carried out by Al Mokdad Clan’s military wing, it turned out that a gang working between Tripoli and Akkar is kidnapping Syrian opposition figures. The LAF Intelligence Directorate managed to arrest 2 of the gang’s members.

Meanwhile, an LAF unit raided the house of abductee Hassan Al Mokdad after arresting the head of the Clan’s military wing yesterday.  Military sources announced that raids will not be halted, adding that the LAF Command is taking strict and unprecedented measures until the release of all abductees.

Politically, Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai concluded his 2-day visit to the region of Chouf by meeting with MP Walid Jumblatt at the Moukhtara Palace. The Patriarch and the state man stressed the necessity of completing reconciliation in Chouf by healing the wounds of Brih and Kfar Selwan. Rai called for a new electoral law and for an impartial approach in dealing with regional events. U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton vainly faced these events with non-binding international resolutions, voicing her pessimism over the possibility of reaching an agreement with Russia on the Syrian crisis.
