Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections’ sit-in dispersed by force

Security forces forcibly dispersed a movement before the Chamber of Deputies led by the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections demanding reform of the electoral law.  

The activist Ayman Dandach explained, in a statement to LBCI, the way they were attacked, stressing that “the security forces’ duty is to protect the people not attack them”.     

For his part, another activist who participated in the demonstration Rony al-Assaad criticized ISF’s behavior, “it was the first time I see an army treating the people this way without actually knowing the real causes”, he said.                

The security forces’ actions were not limited to dispersing the protesters; they also attacked them and forced them to leave their location outside the Parliament.           

Accordingly, the security forces confiscated all cameras and deleted the pictures of the sit-in and the attack. They confiscated as well the cellphones and sent them to a nearby store where the pictures were deleted before returning them to their owners.                  

It is worth mentioning that members of the Lebanese Welfare Association for the Handicapped were among the activists.
