Sleiman from Peru: Lebanon will not be a safe haven for insurgency against Syria

President of the Lebanese Republic Michel Sleiman mentioned that the defense strategy the dialogue committee is trying to finalize aims at putting the weapons of the resistance under the disposal of the Lebanese Army in case Israel violated Lebanese territory.           

He also mentioned that the use of these weapons is based upon a request from the LAF in case an assault took place.                     

During his speech before the Lebanese community in Peru, Sleiman mentioned that this issue is essential until the state is capable of providing equipment to the LAF.          

Sleiman assured the Lebanese community that the Lebanese situation is improving in light of changes taking place in the region towards democracy and social justice.                

Sleiman mentioned that a decision was taken by the committee of dialogue to distance Lebanon from all surrounding conflict adding that Lebanon  "will not be a safe haven for those wishing to conduct military operations against Syria."                    

The President met on Tuesday with Jordan's King Abdullah II in Lima, Peru's capital and discussed with him the repercussions of the Syrian crisis.         

Sleiman stressed that there must be solutions to end the crisis away from violence and foreign interference.                   

Sleiman stressed that the common concern is how to accommodate the displaced Syrians in Lebanon or in Jordan seemingly since "both countries have scarce means."

Sleiman and first lady Wafaa, accompanied by a presidential delegation arrived on Monday to the Peruvian capital, Lima, where the Lebanese president  headed  an Arab group in the third Summit of South American and Arab Countries (ASPA), which starts its works on Tuesday.
