In response to the al-Arabiya report published on Saturday, Hezbollah on Monday denied any involvement in the assassination of late MP Gebran Toueini. “Al-Arabiya's document on Hezbollah is fake and not everything published is a real document and you can tell that from the content,” Hezbollah's State Minister for Administrative Development Mohammed Fneish told reporters as he entered a cabinet session at the Grand Serail. According to a Syrian document obtained by al-Arabiya, "Mission 213 assigned on the 10th of December 2005 has been successfully accomplished with the help of members from the Intelligence Department of Hezbollah". The document, dated December 12, 2005, was sent by head of the operations department in the Syrian intelligence, Hasan Abdul Rahman, to then chief of national security department Assef Shawkat, according to Al-Arabiya. Al-Arabiya added that a road side car bomb was awaiting Lebanese Journalist Gebran Toueini as he was on route to work, detonating at the right time leading to his death. "The assassination operation was described as mysterious", al-Arabiya pointed out.
Information from a US Embassy was issued on the 19th of December 2005 saying that Syria was likely behind Toueini's assassination in 2005 which aimed at ending his Journalistic criticism to the Syrian regime. WikiLeaks which were published in al-Joumhouria daily also pointed out that Toueini's assassination was a loud message to the Lebanese opposition saying that "no person can protect their forces".
