Introduction to the evening news 23-10-2012

Following his arrival to Saudi Arabia to perform his Umrah duties, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said via Twitter that "he performs his taks conscientiously, to protect Lebanon and prevent political void and divisions."

On the other hand, former PM Saad Hariri is also present on Saudi lands following up on the Future Bloc's statement which reiterated the call on the government to step down and to form a new neautral cabinet.

For his part, President Michel Sleiman attempted to find an exit for the crisis through the dialogue table, but his attempts failed after the Future bloc announced its decision to boycott any dialogue session prior to the cabinet's resignation.

The question which arises from the situation is the following: In case Mikati refused to meet the opposition's demands and in case the opposition held on  to its position, what will be the consequences of the paralysis? The economic committees sounded alarm bells, considering that the fate of the national economy has become in the hands of the politicians who are held accountable for its collapse.

On the judicial level, while Judge Nabil Wehbe was appointed as a judicial investigator in the assassination case of Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan, the exchange of accusations continued between political officials. In this context, the Future bloc accused the Syrian regime of being responsible for the crime, while MP Michel Aoun said that Syria is currently unable to commit such a criminal act.

The political escalation was met by a turn down in the military situation; however, the country has practically entered a new stage under the banner: "paralysis".
