Abou Charaf: We must motivate doctors to stay in Lebanon
Head of the Order of Physicians Charaf Abou Charaf warned on Tuesday against "the prolonged and painful emigration of doctors due to the suffocating living hardship which has become a threat to the health security."
Abou Charaf’s comments were made during a medical conference whereby “he reminded doctors of the necessity of working as one hand to advance their status scientifically and socially.”
He also called on the Parliament to adopt the laws submitted by the Syndicate governing the doctor’s immunity and protection from physical and verbal violence while performing professional duty, the insurance of the doctor after retirement, the payment of his fees within a short period of time, raising the value of the official tariff and linking it to the cost of living index, and motivating doctors to stay in the country by providing them with benefits and social and banking facilities.
Abou Charaf concluded by stressing the need to secure medicines and medical supplies so doctors can carry out their duties to the fullest, and the need to monitor and hold all violators accountable in this regard in order “to ensure the health of citizens in these difficult circumstances.”
