News Introduction for Monday 03-10-2011

A very busy start to the week domestically; wage adjustment, Internet and STL funding converged at once and transformed the Grand Serail into a conference room in search of a solution. These issues all share one certainty: their sheer uncertainty. In fact, none of these items are included in the Cabinet’s agenda for Wednesday. For instance, the issue of wage adjustment is trapped between the General Labor Union’s suggestion, and the disapproval of both employers and the price index committee. On the other hand, the internet issue is stuck between the Ministry of Telecommunications, Ogero and Internet service providers. As for the STL funding issue, it seems that there is an attempt to pull it out of the media, especially after the confusion that surrounded it.

Internationally, the Syrian issue is on the forefront. Not only did U.S. Secretary of Defense announce today that the Syrian regime’s downfall is only a matter of time, but protestors across Syria organized to voice support for the Syrian National Council that was formally announced yesterday in Istanbul.
