Lebanese Judges Association: Quotas are worse than void

The Lebanese Judges Association called on not to make any appointment in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), and to expedite adoption of judiciary independence law so that the selection will be based on it, since selection based on quotas has consequences worse than void.

The association stated that this comes "in order to learn from previous lessons and from what we have achieved, and in order not to go back to same political and sectarian quota in appointing members of the SJC, as long as appointing is not our goal but a way to achieve sound management of the judicial authority, in addition to the fact that sound management requires independence in appointing and continuation in practice."
